Ingredients

  • 2 cup Peas, split, mature seeds, raw
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon or more cayenne
Chank
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon mustard seed
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seed
  • 1/4 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 medium diced onion
  • 3 cloves garlic  diced
  • 1 whole dried red chili pepper
  • 1 medium diced cauliflower diced
 
 

Instructions

Wash split peas.
 Add water and split peas to cooking pan.
 Bring to a boil and simmer for 35 minutes. Add diced fresh ginger, turmeric, salt, and cayenne.
 
When split peas have been broken down into a mush it is done for this part.
 Make Chunk - In separate pan sauté in ghee on a high flame cumin seeds, onions, garlic, cauliflower and 1 dried red chile. Cook until golden brown. Add mixture to split peas. Add salt to taste. Garnish with fresh coriander.

This is a great tasting dahl from Bangladesh. It is very nutritious.
