Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 4 cups water
- 7 whole red chili pepper
- 1/4 tablespoon chana dal
- 1 teaspoon coriander seed
- 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/8 teaspoon Asafotida(hing)
- 7 leaves curry leaves
- 1/8 cup tamarind
- 1 cup peas
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
Instructions
In sauce pan boil water. Add rice and let it boil again. Turn down heat to medium and let rice simmer for 20 minutes.
Add coconut oil to skillet. Turn heat to high. When oil is hot add the red chilies, chana dal, coriander seeds, fenugreek seed, and sesame seed. Cook until toasted. Add the curry leaves, turmeric and asafetida. Add 1/4 cup water and stir for a few minutes. Add the tamarind paste and a little more water. Stir until paste is dissolved.
When rice is done add the tamarind mixture to rice and stir gently. Add the peas and cover for a few minutes.
