Shrimp jambalaya

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/8 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 medium onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon  bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
  • 8 oz shrimp
  • 1 link Italian Sausage

Instructions

In cooking pan melt butter. When butter is melted add the whole wheat flour and cook for a few minutes until you can smell the flour. Add the onion and garlic cloves. Sauté for a few minutes. Add the sausage and sauté for a few minutes. Add the tomato sauce, oregano and bay leaves. Add the rice and sauté for a few minutes. Add the chicken broth and cook for around 20 minutes. Add the shrimp around 5 minutes before the rice is done cooking. Stir and serve.
