Persian fish stew

Ingredients
- 2 fillet whitefish
- 1/2 medium onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 2 teaspoons fennel seed
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 dash salt
- 2 cups dice celery
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/8 cup tamarind
- 3 small potatoes
- 1/2 whole lemon
Instructions
Heat up pan with water and potatoes. Bring to a boil and then simmer for around 10 minutes or until potatoes are cooked. Take off burner and strain. Set aside
In small sauce pan combine 1/4 cup water and the tamarind. Bring to a boil. Simmer for a few minutes. Take off heat and mash the tamarind so it is infused into the water.
Heat up skillet. When skillet is hot add the olive oil. Sauté the onions and garlic until they are golden brown. Add the celery, salt, pepper and fennel seeds. Cook until celery is tender. Add the turmeric. Sauté for a few minutes. Add the tamarind water and the whitefish. Cook for a few minutes. Turn over and cook for another few minutes. Add the potatoes and fresh cilantro. Stir and cook for another minute.
Comments
Many different culture use tamarind, turmeric and fish together. This is a fish stew Persian style.
