Ingredients

  • 1 cup  semolina
  • 1/4 cup cashews
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 medium tomato
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1/4 cup peas
  • 1 whole green chili pepper
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 10 sprigs fresh cilantro diced fine
  • 3 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 dash salt
  • 3 cups water
 

Instructions

Sauté in Ghee (clarified butter) mustard seeds until they pop.
Add onions and tomatoes.
Sauté until golden brown.
Add semolina, cashews and spices.
Add more Ghee.
Stir until semolina becomes golden brown.
Add water and peas. Continue stirring all the time.
Stir until the mixture comes off the side of the pan. Add salt and fresh coriander.

I learned this dish while living in Portland Oregon. This dish is from Southern India and is very popular for breakfast.
